Chartreuse Mountain Chamois Hunt

Premium Guided Hunt in the Chartreuse Mountains

Description

Localisation : Chartreuse Mountains, Savoie, France

About this trip

Experience a truly authentic alpine chamois hunt in the French Alps, set in the pristine and rugged terrain of the Chartreuse Mountains in Savoie.

This exclusive hunting trip is designed for experienced hunters seeking a challenging, high-quality mountain experience, guided by a local professional who knows the territory intimately.

The hunt focuses on the Chartreuse chamois, a highly sought-after subspecies of chamois, admired by mountain hunters for its wild nature, rarity, and the technical challenge required to harvest a mature animal in steep alpine terrain.

The Chartreuse massif offers ideal conditions for chamois hunting: vast natural areas, strong populations, and dramatic mountain landscapes that demand both physical ability and strategic thinking.

Hunting takes place on carefully selected free-range territories where chamois move naturally between forests, rocky slopes, and altitude zones. The season runs from September to the end of February, with only a three-week break in November during the rut.

A typical hunting day begins before sunrise, when animals are still actively feeding. From distant vantage points, you and your guide will glass multiple groups, assess movement patterns, and plan the best possible stalk.

Approaches can be long, technical, and highly rewarding. Your guide will do everything possible to position you for a safe and ethical shot, usually between 150 and 300 meters, depending on terrain and conditions.

Accommodation is arranged in a carefully selected local Bed & Breakfast near the hunting area, combining comfort, authenticity, and easy access to the mountains.
