Description
Red Stag Hunting in France — Trophy Stalking on a Private Estate near Toulouse
Red stag hunting in France reaches its peak between mid-September and mid-October, when the rut transforms the forest entirely. Stags roar through the night, spar at dawn, and move openly across the estate in daylight. Our 600-hectare private managed estate, located one hour from Toulouse, holds hundreds of animals and is open for stalking from 1 September to 31 March. Although the rut window is the most sought-after period, trophy stags are available throughout the season. Moreover, a flat-rate package means no hidden fees and no surprises at checkout.
When to Hunt: The Red Stag Rut in Southern France
Mid-September to Mid-October — Peak Rutting Window
The rut is the most intense and most productive period for red stag stalking in France. Dominant stags become vocal, territorial, and visible throughout the day. Although stags remain wary even during the rut, their movement patterns become predictable and their roaring makes location straightforward. It is an experience that veteran hunters describe as unlike anything else in European hunting.
Season Outside the Rut: September to March
Although the rut draws the most bookings, our estate produces excellent trophy stalking from 1 September to 31 March. The managed herd ensures consistent animal quality regardless of timing. Moreover, hunters visiting outside the rut benefit from quieter dates and more flexible scheduling at the same flat-rate price.
The Hunt — Spot-and-Stalk on a 600-Hectare Private Estate
Hunting Method: Spot-and-Stalk and High Seats
The primary method is spot-and-stalk across forest tracks and woodland edges. High seats are positioned across the estate and offer a productive alternative when wind direction makes stalking difficult. Although the estate is fenced and managed, animals are wild-living, mature, and naturally wary. Before you shoot, your Professional Hunter will advise on trophy quality and point count.
Bow Hunting Allowed
Bow hunting is permitted on the estate. Although the same methods apply, additional days are generally required to complete the package. Contact us before booking to discuss bow-specific arrangements.
Combo Hunts — Red Stag, Mouflon and Wild Boar
All three species live on the same 600 hectares. Although red stag is the primary quarry, mouflon rams and wild boar are available as combo additions. Moreover, cull wild boar packages offer a cost-effective second day for hunters looking to maximise time on the ground. Combo pricing is available on application.
